Scholarships

The association funds scholarships for youth bowlers in the KC metro through tournament proceeds and direct member contributions.

Featured scholarship

Betsy Schmidt Youth Scholarship

Beginning with the next application cycle, this scholarship is awarded to a girl; the Willie Pollard scholarship below is awarded to a boy (board decision, September 2026).

Awarded annually to a certified girl youth bowler in grades 9–12 who is active in a Greater KCMO USBC league — one $500 scholarship each year. Prior recipients are not eligible.

2026 recipient: Isabelle R. Young — recognized at the Night of Fame.

Deadline
Postmarked on or before July 15 each year. The 2026 cycle has closed; the next deadline is July 15, 2027.
Award amount
$500. Funds are sent to the recipient’s SMART account.

Eligibility

  • In 9th through 12th grade
  • A member in good standing of the Greater KCMO USBC
  • Currently bowling in a Greater KCMO USBC league, with at least 21 games
  • Not under suspension by the Missouri State High School Athletic Association
  • Has not received this scholarship before

Emphasis is placed on bowling efforts, academics, and leadership.

Willie Pollard Youth Scholarship

Awarded annually to a certified boy youth bowler in a Greater KCMO USBC league, by board decision in September 2026. The office will publish the application, deadline, and award amount for the next cycle; until then, contact the office.

How to apply

  1. Confirm eligibility with your league secretary or the office.
  2. Complete the scholarship application (download the PDF above).
  3. Attach, on separate sheets: scholastic honors, extracurricular activities, and community service (with dates); letters of recommendation (coach, principal, counselor, and/or teacher); a 200-word-or-less essay on why this scholarship is important to you; and a school transcript.
  4. Mail the complete application, postmarked by July 15, to Greater KCMO USBC, 6025 Raytown Road, Raytown, MO 64133.
  5. The scholarship committee reviews; recipients are recognized at the Night of Fame alongside the association’s annual awards.

Donate to the fund

Direct contributions to the youth scholarship fund are tax-deductible through the association. Contact the office to discuss recurring giving, named scholarships, or memorial contributions.
